EMA, NSSA, Parliament close offices

THE Environmental Management Agency (EMA), National Social Security Authority (NSSA) and the Parliament of Zimbabwe have closed their Harare Offices after some members of staff tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement, the Clerk of Parliament Mr Kennedy Chokuda said four people had tested positive as of Monday morning.

“It is with a heavy heart that Parliament announces the suspension of most of its businesses due to exposure of some Members of Parliament to Covid-19 as this morning, only two Members of Parliament have been confirmed positive. A driver from one of our service providers and a journalist who are part of the team who also tested positive, said Mr Chokuda.

Those who were in contact with the affected people have been sent home to self quarantine while the premise is being disinfected.  Any sittings have been adjourned untill further notice.

Meanwhile EMA will from today close off its doors to pave way for deep cleansing of their premises.

In a statement EMA  spokesperson Ms Amukela Sidange said the company after cleaning the offices.

“EMA regrets to announce that one member of   staff at its head office tested positive for Covid-19. As guided by Ministry of Health and Child Care protocol and guidelines, strict measures on contact tracing and testing have been implemented,” she said.

Ms Sidange said Covid-19 cases across the country have been on the increase of late and as EMA they proritise the safety of staff members and the public.

” On that note, the agency would like to notify the public that EMA Head office in Blufhill and well as KGiV office that houses Harare province and the EMA Laboratory will be temporarily closed with effect from Monday 27 July 2020 until future notice, she said.

Ms Sidange said this is to pave way for intensive disinfection of the premises to ensure safety of staff and public and reopening at a date to be communicated.

A NSSA spokesperson also said they have closed their Harare office after a member of their team tested positive for Covid -19.

The three entities said they have instituted proceedings for contact tracing and testing of all affected people.
