RISING tennis sensation Isaac Nyoni has insisted that his confidence is high ahead of the Junior Africa Tennis Championships set for the Harare Sports Club from January 6-16.
The 13-year old Nyoni was selected to partake in the prestigious regional tournament after doing well in national events in Masvingo, Mutare and Bulawayo.
Nyoni will be the only player from his club, Emakhandeni that will be representing Zimbabwe in the event which is also known as the Junior Africa Tennis Championships.
“I am going into this tournament full of confidence. I have been working hard and l believe the work that my coach Witness Jiyane has put will bring positive results.
“l want to do well in this competition so that l go on to represent Southern Africa and later Africa,” said Nyoni.
“I was position two at the new winners’ competition last year in January.
“I also participated in the Emakhandeni Open and won gold. So far l have 15 medals in my career and l am in grade six at Emakhandeni Primary,” said Nyoni.
The categories that will be participating are the under fourteen and sixteen both boys and girls.

Nyoni is following in the footsteps of Zamani Moyo, chosen in the national Under-16 team and Adrien Mudzire, the highest ranked Under-12 player in the country, who also represented Zimbabwe at the Africa Junior Championships in Mozambique.
All the players made the national cut since Jiyane took over in 2014. Moyo is now at Howard University in the United States on a tennis scholarship. — @innocentskizoe.
