THE Chinese Embassy has donated sewing equipment to Teen Rescue Mission (TRM) in a move aimed at empowering vulnerable girls and single mothers with practical life skills.
The donation, which includes sewing machines, overlocking machines, sewing starter kits, tables and chairs was made under the embassy’s Hope Harbour Programme, which focuses on community upliftment and capacity-building initiatives.
Chinese Ambassador Zhou Ding said the donation seeks to empower young women with skills that can transform their lives.
“Empowering girls and single mothers with practical skills is instrumental in building brighter futures and truly transformative,” said Zhou.
“Let’s keep up our good work.”
TRM, a local non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating at risk girls and young women, hailed the support, saying it will go a long way in enhancing their dressmaking training programme.
“TRM is excited to receive sewing machines from the Chinese Embassy. This generous support empowers girls and single mothers in our dressmaking class with skills for self-reliance,” the organisation said in a statement.
“Thank you for fueling youth empowerment!”
The Chinese Embassy has been actively supporting grassroots initiatives through the Hope Harbour programme, which has provided various forms of aid to youth centres and vocational skills projects across Zimbabwe.
The latest support to TRM strengthens Sino-Zim ties in development cooperation, with a strong emphasis on skills training an sustainable livelihoods for marginalised communities.
