Embrace new political dispensation, youths urged

Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs Cde Owen Ncube has urged youths to embrace the new political dispensation led by President Mnangagwa.

He also urged them to shun drug abuse and corruption.

Addressing over 2 000 participants from the country’s 10 provinces, who converged at Kwekwe Polytechnic College for the official opening of the Tertiary Sports Association of Zimbabwe (TESAZ) Games on Tuesday, Minister Ncube said youths had a critical role in transforming the country and safeguarding its legacy.

“Indeed, the Games are taking place after (the advent of) a new political dispensation. We must therefore affirm and subscribe to the vision and objectives of the new political dispensation under the visionary and transformational leadership of His Excellency Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa,” he said.

Minister Ncube encouraged youths to register to vote.

“2018 is an election year, therefore, I urge you to participate in the event,” he said.

“Ensure that you are registered to vote. Go and cast your vote on election day.”

The Games, running under the theme “Promoting Wellness and Health Through Sport”, had come at an opportune time when the country is grappling with HIV and cancer, he added.

“As you meet for the Games under the banner, take some time to think of ways on how, as a country, we can win against the diseases (HIV and cancer),” said Minister Ncube.

“Let us promote research in our institutions on ways to fight cervical cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer.”

TESAZ president Mr Conwell Tigere said more than 2 000 participants from 11 institutions were gathered in the mining town for the Games.

“We have 11 institutions and more than 2 000 participants that are taking part in more than 15 sporting disciplines,” said Mr Tigere.

He said the Games will help come up with a team for the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union that will take place in August.

The four-day Games began on the April 1.

Minister Ncube donated $500 towards the smooth running of the Games.
