EMBRACE ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGNS, SAYS TSCZ

THE Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has called on motorists to participate in road safety campaigns this festive season.

TSCZ managing director, Munesuishe Munodawafa, said human error was the main cause for accidents during the festive season.

TSCZ will have 40 road awareness checkpoints in partnership with the police during the festive period.

It is seeking the support of stakeholders, such as the media and telecoms industry, to promote engagement.

Munodawafa said behaviour change, and education, were critical to reducing road accidents, which last year were accompanied by insults and assaults on campaign team members.

“It is sad that the team we sent for our campaigns last year reported on insults and assault from the travelling public instead of them visiting the checkpoints.

“Travellers complain of being delayed to drink and party, but we appeal to them to give us a few minutes and pass through our checkpoints and be educated.

“A recent study shows that 94 percent of road accidents in Zimbabwe are attributed to human error and we need to cut down the rate this season,” said Munodawafa.
