THE Emerging Warriors settled for a point after a goalless draw in their opening COSAFA Group A encounter against Mauritius in Bloemfontein yesterday.

Two goals from both sides were ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee.

Mozambique are in charge of the Group A proceedings after they recorded a 1-0 victory over hosts Bafana Bafana.

The winners of this group will progress to the next round of this tournament.

Zimbabwe will face South Africa on Saturday needing maximum points if they are entertaining any hopes of extending their stay in the tournament. The Warriors squad consists mainly of Under-23 players who were fused with senior players like MWOS’ Martin Mapisa and Andrew Mbeba of Highlanders.

FC Platinum forward, Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya’s 41th minute strike from close range was ruled out for offside by VAR after the nearside assistant had allowed it to stand.

Mauritius were denied by VAR in the 73th minute after the system detected a handball in the build-up to their goal by Stephan Christopher De.

Finland based midfielder Prosper Padera showed a lot of promise with his industry and clever runs.
