Emmanuel High School’s golf team recently emerged victorious in the Junior Africa Challenge held in Durban, South Africa.
The team comprised nine members of seven girls and two boys.
Emmanuel Golf Academy emerged as the biggest winner, with four students claiming top positions, including first, second, and third places.
Mindel Munemo (1), Kayla Bareki (1), Listiah Bangura (3), Kaylee Mutambudzi (3), Sean Mukono (8), Brilliant Dondo (7), Muganda Melissa (8), Kristie Sabuneti (9) and Nicole Maumbe (8) brought 4 major trophies and 10 medals.
This prestigious event saw over 200 junior golfers from across the globe competing.
The golf programme aims to provide each student-athlete with the value of competition, the importance of consistent effort, and the love of the game.
The success of the golfers is attributed to their dedication, hard work, and passion for the sport.
Charles Kamba, the patron, said the team performed exceptionally well with the golfers now ranked in top 10 in the world.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our school administration, the Sports and Recreation Commission, the Ministry of Sport, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and the Zimbabwe Golfers Association for their unwavering support.
“Our golfers represented Zimbabwe and their school, a strong team of nine junior golfers, comprising seven girls and two boys.
“This achievement is a collective victory, and we are deeply grateful for everyone’s contribution to our success,” he said.
The students have competed in various tournaments, including the Zimbabwe Amateur Tournaments, Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Association (ZLGA) events, Junior World Cup Qualifiers, and the recently concluded 2024 Junior Africa Challenge at San Lameer.
The Emmanuel Golf Academy is now a thriving institution for young golfing talent, born out of the vision and dedication of Kamba, a passionate golf developer and coach whose commitment to the sport has inspired a generation of young athletes. The journey of the Emmanuel Golf Academy began in 2021 when Kamba, driven by his love for golf and his desire to nurture young talent, started training a small group of students at the Warren Hills Golf Club.
Unfortunately, the club was soon closed, prompting a move to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Golf Club. Despite this early challenge, Mr Kamba’s determination never wavered, and the academy continued to grow, focusing on boys and girls aged 13 to 18, from Form 1 to Form 6.
Now, three years later, the Emmanuel Golf Academy has blossomed into a formidable force in the golfing community.
