Emotional send-off for Chidarikire’s wife

Wife to Mashonaland West Minister of State Cde Faber Chidarikire, Mrs Ellen Chidarikire nee Chasumba, who died last Friday, was buried on Monday at Chinhoyi Cemetery.

She was 66. Mrs Chidarikire succumbed to a long battle with cancer and speakers at the burial who included relatives, Government and Zanu-PF officials described her as a strong and loving woman who was also God-fearing.

A requiem mass was held at the Roman Catholic St Peter’s church prior to her burial. Cde Chidarikire said his late wife was a pillar of strength.

“We went through a lot together and shared a lot since 1966,” he said.

“I would like to say go well and thank everyone who has stood by us as a family during this bereavement.” Musician and son Tendai Chidarikire gave an emotional rendition of his song Amai which saw congregants singing along. He said his mother worked hard to raise her children.

Acting Zanu-PF Mashonaland West chairperson Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi said the family should celebrate and cherish the time they had with Mrs Chidarikire as others grow up without mothers.

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Dr Ignatius Chombo called on the family to remain united. Mrs Chidarikire is survived by her husband, five children and nine grandchildren.
