Emotional send off for Mujuru family members who perished in horrific accident

A sombre atmosphere enveloped the Zabe area in Ward 3 of  Chikomba district today during the burial of six members of the Mujuru family.

The six who are a mother and her five children, died in a road traffic accident on Thursday while on their way to Zvishavane for a church conference.

Those who perished are the mother,  Lillian Maranda-Majuru (40), Nokutenda (15), Makanaka (13), Ronald (11), Rufaro(7) and Kayden (3) Mujuru.

Today, hundreds of people joined the Mujuru family at their rural home in Chikomba district to bury their loved ones.

The fatal accident occurred on the 246km peg along the Harare-Masvingo highway.

It is reported that on approaching the 246 km peg, a head-on collision occurred involving a Toyota Corolla vehicle and a truck, resulting in the death of six people in the Toyota Corolla vehicle.

Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona, who was the chief mourner appealed to the Mujuru and Maranda families to be strong and support one another in these difficult times.

Minister Mhona also consoled Mr Ronald Mujuru, the husband of Lillian and father to the five children, urging him to remain strong and accept what had transpired.

“We are gathered here, mourning. It is a difficult moment for the family and the nation is with you. Death has robbed us of a family and it is painful.

“I want to commend all of you for coming here and joining the family in burying their loved ones.”
