Empowering women in Zimbabwe is a pathway to achieving economic development, prosperity and sustainability, Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said yesterday.

Delivering a lecture at the Zimbabwe National Defence University, which focused on the participation of women in economic developmen, she said: “Empowering women is not just a moral obligation; it is a crucial strategy for our national development.

“When women are empowered, they contribute significantly to economic growth, leading to a more prosperous and sustainable future for all.”

Sen Mutsvangwa highlighted the importance of integrating women into all sectors of the economy, noting that their participation can drive innovation and enhance productivity.

“Women possess unique perspectives and skills that can transform industries and communities. It is essential that we create an environment where women can thrive and lead,” she said.

The Minister discussed initiatives aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs and small business owners, stressing the need for access to resources and opportunities.

“We must ensure that women have equal access to financing, training, and markets.

“This will not only uplift individual women, but also strengthen our economy as a whole,” she said.

Sen Mutsvangwa’s lecture was well-received by attendees, who engaged in discussions on the barriers women face in achieving economic empowerment.

“It is imperative that we work collectively to dismantle these barriers and foster an inclusive economy,” she said.

Her call to action aligns with the Government’s broader commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women, recognising their vital role in shaping the future of Zimbabwe’s economy.
