EMPOWERMENT Chapel Ministry has joined the fight against drug abuse among the youth, using its craft to amplify the message.
The ministry has launched a dance competition dubbed ‘Zoe Dance Competition’ which is set to start on July 8.
Dubbed “Promoting a Talent and Stay Away from Drugs”, the competition was launched on Saturday. President and founder of Empowerment Chapel and Zoe Dance Competitions, Emmanuel Masiiwa, said the competition is open to everyone.
“The Dance Competition is not only open to the church, but everyone.
“This is because we are trying to leave no one behind.
“Therefore, the competitions are open to everyone to showcase their creativity, dancing skills and talent.
“We are also calling for institutions, corporations and non-profit making organisations to sponsor our dance competition as we are on the journey to building lives.”
He added: “We have chosen to take this path because we have realised that not every youth is interested in religious education or participation.
“Rather, some are interested in art and entertainment.
“So, it is an opportunity or a catching sport for those in church and the outside community to participate.
“The agenda of the competition is to promote talent among the youths.
“As the country is fighting drug and substance abuse cases, which are on the rise, we have decided to take this path so as to prevent young adults from getting into drug and substance abuse habits.
“We are trying to say #NoToDrugs at a religious level through promoting talent.
“We have started with highly-populated areas such as Chitungwiza, where there are many young adults vulnerable to drug abuse.”
