The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri has called on the immediate end to the massacre of children and women in Palestine by Israeli forces which he said had left the country weak and unproductive.
Speaking after a solidarity march in Harare, Dr Almassri said the continued and brutal killing of women and children was destroying the future of the country.
He said events in Gaza were not a war, but genocide against the Palestinian people which should stop forthwith.
“The horrific events against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip have resulted in the killing and displacement of children and women,” he said.
“The bombing and destruction of civilian buildings like supermarkets, hospitals, schools, and government offices has left the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip facing a true humanitarian disaster.
“What we are facing now in Palestine and mostly in Gaza, is the genocide. Many of our citizens, innocent ones have been butchered in cold blood by the Israelis.”
The Twins Association of Zimbabwe also participated in the march and called on the immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza.
“The killing of children is against all international and domestic laws and Israel must be punished for that. I would like to thank everyone here for standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine as we fight to end this child slaughter,” said association president Mr Tendai Katonha.
Ambassador Almassri said the bombardment of Gaza would not only destroy the Palestinian nation, but the region as well.
He said he was very disappointed with the international community, mainly the United Nations, for not acting according to international law.
Ambassador Almassri said every six minutes, a Palestinian was losing life and it was time for the whole world to act against Israel.
“The people in Palestine will not abandon their country and give up their rights. Instead, they will keep fighting for the independence of the State of Palestine, with Jerusalem serving as its capital,” he said.
