Sixteen suspects who allegedly robbed commuters in Harare after offering them transport have been arrested.
Goods worth US$8 000 were recovered.
Acting Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson Detective Assistant Inspector Portia Chinho said the suspected robbers have since appeared in court and were remanded in custody to tomorrow. It is alleged that between November 2013 and January 9, this year there was a spate of robberies in and around Harare.

The robbers mainly used public transport vehicles like Toyota Hiaces and Nissan Caravans in committing the crimes.
They posed as public transporters and robbed unsuspecting commuters who boarded their vehicles.

This prompted CID Homicide detectives to intensify deployments around the city, leading to their arrest.
CID is calling on victims of the robberies to come to Harare Central Police Station to check if any of the recovered goods belong to them.

Asst Insp Chinho urged the commutters to be alert and avoid falling victim to such criminals.
