A thief, who was in the habit of breaking into houses in Mutare and stealing household goods, has been jailed five years.

Trymore Mureyani (31) was jailed by magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe.

Mureyani was arrested after he broke into Tapiwa Rondozani’s house and stole household property worth $5 000.

The State led by Mr Chris Munyuku heard that on April 21 this year, Mureyani broke into a house at Rondozani’s homestead in Nehwangura Village under Chief Zimunya using iron bars.

He then stole a 24-inch plasma television, 50 watts solar panel, cellphones and a home theatre system. When Rondozani returned home from Mutare, he discovered that his solar panel, which was on top of the roof was missing. He then checked the house and discovered that a windowpane had been broken and someone had gained entry into his house. Rondozani discovered that his property was also missing. On May 5, detectives received information to the effect that Mureyani had the stolen property. They went to his house and met his wife. They searched the house and recovered the stolen property, minus the cell phones.

Mureyani was arrested the following day, leading to the recovery of the stolen cellphones.
