Energy and Power Development Minister Dzikamai Mavhaire has dissolved eight boards of energy State enterprises, saying he was not happy with their work. The boards’ terms expired on December 31, 2013 and the minister felt they had to be reconstituted. Addressing a media conference in Harare yesterday, Minister Mavhaire said it had become necessary to inject new blood into the eight boards that fall under his jurisdiction.
“I am not happy. I’m not enjoying the job they have done during their time. I think I need a new team with a clear vision; people who are able to understand my orientation, people who are able to understand where I am going,” Minister Mavhaire said.
The boards are: the Zimbabwe Power Company chaired by Mr Victor Gapare, Power Tel (Mr Francis Chirumuuta), Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Distribution Company (Mr Steven Hazangwi), Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Mr Canada Malunga), the Rural Electrification Agency (Engineer John Mberi), Zesa Enterprises (Engineer Andrew Nyambayo), National Oil Infrastructure Company (Mr Chriswell Gombera) and Petrotrade (Mr Kenias Mafukidze).
“Accordingly, the boards of the above-mentioned energy State enterprises have been dissolved. New boards shall be appointed in due course,” Minister Mavhaire said.
He said the Zesa Holdings board’s tenure also lapsed on December 31, 2013 and was neither renewed nor extended.
The board is chaired by Eng Simbarashe Mangwengwende.
