He said energy management could be implemented by energy users while the country pursued other solutions like increasing generation through construction of power stations.
“Efforts to save energy will not only help benefit the national grid, but will also help industry save millions of dollars in fines and bills, thereby reducing production costs and increasing competitiveness,” said Mr Chaitezvi.
He said a research that was conducted by the company proved that many companies were losing a lot of money in paying for electricity they did not use because there were no energy audits.
“Electricity deficiencies and research shows that a significant amount of energy is lost due to lack of modern energy management systems,” said Mr Chaitezvi.
He said his company was going to hold a conference on 15 March in Harare to try and address some of the issues.
The energy conference would be targeted at company personnel responsible for plant maintenance, managing ISO 14001 and/or ISO 5000, finance directors and managers and production managers and plant managers.
Mr Chaitezvi also said hoteliers, retailers, property managers, company directors and Government officials were also invited.
“This one day conference will provide a general overview of the concepts and details on some topics that include Zimbabwe’s policies on energy management, requirements and benefits of energy management and how to minimise energy waste through energy use monitoring,” said Mr Chaitezvi.
He said the conference would come up with ways on how companies could finance energy efficiency.
“The conference will also provide an overview on conducting an energy audit, the introduction of ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 and how to improve energy efficiency in an organisation,” said Mr Chaitezvi.
He said invited speakers include the managing director in distribution from Eskom in South Africa Mr Ayanda Noah, Mr Justin Mupamhanga, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Power Development, Mr Fullard Gwasira, Zesa spokesperson and Mr Joseph Hwani, a research scientist from Sirdc.
