Presidential Affairs and Devolution permanent secretary Engineer Tafadzwa Muguti has toured various devolution-funded projects in Zvimba District to appreciate and evaluate their impact.
Eng Muguti first paid a courtesy call on Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo at her offices in Chinhoyi before visiting Zvimba Rural District Council.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress that Zvimba RDC has made in the procurement of equipment and construction of social amenities, including 90 classrooms at 40 schools in the district.
Eng Muguti toured Murombedzi High School, and inspected at least 10 vehicles, including a fire tender, a borehole drilling rig, a refuse compactor, a grader and tippers purchased using devolution funds.
He later visited Chenzou Community Hall, which fits into the rural revitalisation and industrialisation programme as it supports poultry and rabbit production.
“Zvimba has done exceptionally well in the last five years where they have bought 10 vehicles, including a fire tender and a borehole drilling rig among others,” said Eng Muguti.
“We want to make sure that the devolution funds, which is 5 percent of Government revenue is used for the benefit of the people.
“The funds should be used prudently and our local authorities should communicate clearly to the people that the funds are coming from Central Government.”
Zvimba RDC chief executive officer Mr Enias Chidakwa commended the Government for the Devolution Funds saying they have helped to accelerate development.
“If it wasn’t for the Devolution Funds we would have only done about a quarter of what we have managed to achieve in the last five years,” said Mr Chidakwa.
