Matapi Flats in Mbare, Harare, are set for a facelift, as Engineer Collins Takunda Mnangagwa has embarked on a major project to renovate them under ED AID1.

Matapi consist of 14 blocks of three-storey flats.

Eng Mnangagwa has since dispatched a team, led by the project’s chief executive officer, Mr Brian Pande, Mr Taurai Pande, Mr Chamunorwa Marufu, and Mr Prince Munyaradzi Munangwa, for assessment.

The team has since contracted workers to carry out plumbing and painting work.

In an interview, Mr Pande applauded Eng Mnangagwa for assisting the people of Mbare.

“We recently visited the flats after Eng Mnangagwa sent us to assess what needs to be done. We have now begun the work; this is the beginning of the project.

“The people here are happy. We aim to renovate all the flats in and around this area in line with the mantra of leaving no place and no one behind,” he said.

In May, Eng Mnangagwa was recognised for his contribution to socio-economic transformation and community empowerment after winning the Leadership in Socio-Economic Development and Community Empowerment accolade at the Community Builders in Africa Awards ceremony.

Barely a week earlier, Eng Mnangagwa had been named among the Top 40 under-40 project managers in Zimbabwe by the Chartered Institute of Project Management Zimbabwe (CIPMZ).

The recognition was a reflection of Eng Mnangagwa’s growing influence in both corporate leadership and community development, driven by principles of project governance, execution discipline, and impact-focused delivery, which is key to sustainable development.

As head of a diversified group with interests in mining, logistics and energy, Eng Mnangagwa has been commended for driving strategic growth while supporting initiatives that improve the livelihoods of communities.

Over the years, he has overseen projects that have strengthened communities through job creation, local economic development, and targeted social support programmes.

His leadership also emphasises purpose-driven stakeholder engagement, ensuring that community assistance addresses practical social and economic needs.
