ENGLISH county teams, Durham and Glamorgan continued their dominance over Southerns and Northerns after they recorded 129 runs and three wicket victories respectively at Harare Sports Club yesterday in the second T20s.
Durham, batting first posted a massive 246/5 in their 20 overs and went on to bowl their opponents for 117 to make it two straight wins. In the other match, Glamorgan bowled out Northerns for 122 in 19.1 overs before going on to finish on 124/7 in 20 overs.
The opening partnership of Alex Lees and Graham Clark put up a 140-run stand for the first wicket for Durham. The skipper, Lees fell for 52 runs off 33 deliveries while Clark scored 77 runs from 37 balls. Ollie Robinson remained undefeated on a 22 ball 44 runs whereas Ben Raine finished on 35 runs from 17 balls.
Southern gave away 21 runs as Tanaka Chivanga took two wickets for 43 runs in three overs. Alex Falao, Luke Jongwe and Brandon Mavuta picked up one scalp each for the Zimbabwean side as they were set a huge target for the win.
Only four Southerns batters managed to score double figures with the top scorer being Clive Madande with 28 runs from 19 balls. Roy Kaia and Cephas Zhuwao fell for 18 and 17 runs respectively for Southerns while Mavuta chipped in with 11 runs as they suffered their second consecutive T20 defeat.
In the afternoon, Northerns’ Tony Munyonga top scored with 31 runs off 34 deliveries while Shingi Masakadza made 19 runs from 22 deliveries. Tadiwanashe Marumani scored 14 runs as they put a below par T20 score in their innings.
Timm van der Gugten took four wickets in 3.1 overs giving away 14 runs for Glamorgan while Zain-ul-Hassan and Andrew Salter took two scalps each for the English side.
