The Harare Church of Christ and African Development Mission Trust Fund leader Pastor Denford Chizanga recently organised a leadership forum to encourage Christians to venture into business.
The forum was attended by a team of business experts from the United States. Mr Jack Langsford said, “People should learn to treat anything they do seriously.
“I often heard people saying I’m just doing something small, that mentality is not correct in business. Create ownership, respect what you do and you will prosper. People in business should share ideas and experiences, no one in business lives in isolation you must depend on another.”
He said people should learn from their business mistakes.
“If disaster strikes what am I going to do? As a business person plan ahead! It is very dangerous to be found by disasters wanting,” he said.
The forum also dealt with issues of consistency and integrity when offering products and services.
“We cannot control the environment but we can control what we do under the environment. Businesspeople should diversify. For example, if you are selling chickens there is nothing that can stop you to sell complimentary product such as onions or tomatoes,” said Mr Langsford.
Insurance expert Mr Rick Reeds urged attendees to dream big and be innovative.
“Everything starts in the mind don’t look down upon yourself, you have to believe in yourself,” Mr Reeds said.
He also emphasised the need to praise and worship God from the heart.
“A number of people these days are pre-occupied, they forget to worship. They go to church on Sundays, do everything quick and rush back home without even having communed with God,” said Mr Reeds.
