Cuban Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Elio Savon Oliva yesterday paid a courtesy call on Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko and delivered a congratulatory message for his appointment to the presidium.

Ambassador Oliva delivered the congratulatory message from the Cuban government and held discussions on the greater bilateral co-operation between the two countries.

“We came here to convey the message of congratulations to Vice President Mphoko for his appointment from his counterpart from Cuba,” said Ambassador Oliva.

“We also had an opportunity to talk about the history between our two countries and issues of mutual interest and exchanged notes on the history of our revolutions.”

He said Zimbabwe and Cuba have mutual co-operation in areas of health, education and issues regarding scholarships as well as tourism. He reiterated his country’s commitment to assisting Zimbabwe in various areas of the economic sectors. Cuba has several health personnel working at hospitals around Zimbabwe.

A number of Zimbabwean students have graduated as teachers from Cuban Universities through the Professor Training Programme, whose relocation helped pioneer the Bindura University of Science Education.
