Zimbabwe’s Honorary Consul to Israel Mr Ronny Levi Musan last week took the country’s emblems to Jesus’ birthplace, symbolising a prosperity prayer for the nation, in line with Christmas celebrations.
Mr Musan took the national flag and President Mnangagwa’s portrait to the spot in Bethlehem, Israel, where Jesus Christ is believed to have been born.
Explaining the significance of his gesture to The Sunday Mail, Mr Musan said: “The birthplace of Jesus is a place that all the eyes of the Christian world are directed towards at this time, since it is a symbol of new life, of new beginnings, of hope, of renewed strength and of joy. As part of my duties as Consul of Zimbabwe in Israel, beyond the diplomatic activity, I also work on the spiritual level to strengthen the ties between the countries.”
He said the big Christian population in Zimbabwe inspired him to say a prayer for Zimbabwe.
“Israel is not an ordinary country. It is the Holy Land and since millions of believing Christians live in Zimbabwe, it is my duty to connect them to the spiritual aspect of the Holy Land from which they can draw joy and hope for their lives,” said Mr Musan.
Special gesture
“The special gesture of placing the picture of His Excellency President Mnangagwa and the flag of Zimbabwe, precisely on the spot indicating the place of Christ’s birth in the Nativity Cave in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, is a gesture of true prayer for the beginning of a new and successful year for Zimbabwe that will bring renewed growth and joy to Zimbabwe,” he added.
During the visit to the sacred place, Mr Musan received a letter for President Mnangagwa from a leader of the Christian community and the Church of Bethlehem.
