ZIMDANCEHALL sensation, Enzo Ishall, feels he must first make a massive impact on the domestic scene before pursuing interests to work with foreign musicians.
Despite being regarded as one of the best local musicians, the chanter has not yet pursued collaborations with foreign artists.
It’s a path many of his peers have taken.
Over the years, Enzo’s popularity on the domestic entertainment industry has soared.
He is now ranked among the most active touring artists in Zimbabwe, winning the hearts of many – both locally and internationally.
In an interview with Zimpapers, through his manager Ngoni Nyamunokora, Enzo pointed out the importance of building a strong local foundation before going global.
“l feel that at the moment an international collaboration isn’t beneficial due to a number of factors – mainly financial terms and market alignment.
“Our music industry in Zimbabwe is not well equipped to handle these collaborations.
“Also, we are a small country so for your music to get accepted internationally, you need a critical mass following and that starts at home.
“So, personally, l believe that focusing on local growth might be a better strategy than pursuing global exposure prematurely.
“The idea is to create a style/sound that defines me and stick to it till it breaks into international markets.”
After a steady and successful year, Enzo said he has a clear plan of consistency, creative growth and deeper connection with his fan base for his music this year.
The chanter and his team are dedicating this year almost entirely to music production.
Enzo said he will be releasing six singles, within the year, a move aimed at strengthening his presence on the local industry while experimenting with new sounds.
“We are dedicating this year to music production and we will try to give our fan base six singles this year.
“So, we are engaging new producers who are willing to work and try out new ideas.”
The rollout begins in the first quarter, with the first single scheduled for release next month on Valentine’s Day.
Enzo said the song will be a love-themed release, timed to resonate with listeners during the romantic season.
“First single release will be a love song in February on Valentine’s Day,” he said.
Enzo’s music releases last year had a tangible impact beyond streaming numbers.
Successful singles strengthened his brand and translated into increased business opportunities.
“Successful singles l released boosted my brand which leads to increased demand for brand endorsements, sponsorship deals and gigs all over the country.”
Last year, he collaborated with Madedido on the song “Attack Majapanese” and with Jnr Spragga on “Disaster”, both of which were hit songs, racking up over a million views on YouTube.
“Significant benefit is that other artists bring in fresh energy, creativity and obviously tape into a new audience.
“So, this will definitely impact future projects in a positive way as it forces him out of his creative routine and inspires him to explore and experiment with new ideas/sounds.”
Last year, the chanter graced numerous significant events, including the Castle Tankard Horse Race, the Bulawayo Shut Down Gig in April, the Black Label Pool Tournament, and the Zim Link Up Festival in the UK.
