EPL season to kick off on a Friday

LONDON. — The English Premier League soccer season will kick off on a Friday night for the first time with a meeting between Arsenal and Leicester at the Emirates Stadium on August 11.

The first selection of televised fixtures was confirmed on Thursday, which will see the new 2017-18 English Premier League season open with the clash, which kicks off at 8:45pm (Zimbabwean time). Liverpool play Watford at 1:30pm on the Saturday and Brighton’s Premier League debut at home against Manchester City will be broadcast in the 6:30pm slot.

Meanwhile, Tottenham fans will be set for an early journey to the north east on Sunday August 13 ahead of the 2:30pm kick-off against Newcastle, who make their return to the top flight after winning the Championship last season. — ESPN.
