A 40-year-old man appeared in court in Epworth last week charged with assault after he allegedly struck another man once on the head with an axe handle.
This followed a dispute at his house.
Prosper Tenga was released on free bail.
He was arrested and charged for allegedly striking Tafadzwa Magwidi, 28, who was having a dispute with his wife, Tariro Chinanga, 25.
When Tenga was arrested, the initial reports claimed that he had been nabbed for attempted murder but it has since emerged that he was charged with assault.
Tafadzwa and Tariro, who is related to Tenga, had a dispute at their home in Epworth.
Tariro fled her house.
Tafadzwa then teamed up with his colleagues and started searching for Tariro.
Their search took them to Tenga’s house but they did not find Tariro.
The drama continued into the following day and Tafadzwa and his group returned to Tenga’s house.
A dispute arose between Tenga and Tafadzwa.
Tenga claims that when he felt that his safety, and that of his family, was now under threat, he decided to fight back and, in the process, he struck Tafadzwa.
The case was reported at Epworth Police Station under RRB 6768126.
