Epworth man faces kidnap, rape charges

The girl, who was doing Form Three at a local college in the same area, had allegedly run away from home after being beaten by her mother, when she met Augustine Musekiwa.
Musekiwa then took the girl to his house where he held her hostage for five days and raped her several times before he chased her away. Musekiwa yesterday appeared before regional magistrate Mr Morgen Nemadire facing charges of kidnapping and rape.
He was remanded in custody to September 29.
The magistrate advised Musekiwa to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Mr Michael Reza alleges that on August 11 this year, the girl arrived home from school around 6pm and this did not go down well with her mother who assaulted her.
After being assaulted, the girl fled to Munyuki area in Epworth.
While walking along a footpath, she came across Musekiwa who asked her why she was walking alone at night.
The girl narrated her ordeal.
It is alleged Musekiwa offered to assist by offering her accommodation and told her she could sleep with his sisters.
Upon arrival, it is alleged, Musekiwa took her to his two-roomed cottage where he instructed her to sleep in an inner room.
He allegedly followed her and threatened to stab her with a screwdriver if she made any noise.
Musekiwa told the girl that from that moment she had become his wife before pushing her onto the floor bed and raped her twice.
The following morning he locked her inside and threatened her against escaping.
He allegedly held the girl hostage and raped her several times until August 15 when he chased her away.
The girl was spotted by her neighbours who took her to her grandmother’s place where she disclosed the matter. Her grandmother told her mother who in turn made a report that led to Musekiwa’s arrest.
