Epworth residents hail Miss Universe

Residents of Glenwood in Epworth have hailed the visiting reigning Miss Universe, Sheynnis Palacios, who facilitated the drilling of two boreholes in their area.

Palacios, who arrived in the country last night, handed over the two boreholes in Epworth this morning.

The boreholes will not only provide clean water to the community but will also enable the Glenwood community to carry out agricultural projects.

One of the residents, Mrs Rosemary Mbawa told The Herald that she was grateful for the kind gesture which will transform their lives.

“With the rehabilitation of boreholes, we are going to produce vegetables because the water is now easily accessible,” she said.

“We used to buy water and it was not cost-effective for us to use that water for anything other than for drinking, cooking, and other household chores.

“This initiative will go a long way in helping us because water is life.

Ms Tendai Torino said: “We need to ensure that everyone benefits from these boreholes,” she said.

“No one should be made to pay to fetch water,” she said.
