HUMAN rights-based approaches to development endeavours are the best modalities for reducing inequalities and adopting new pathways towards the realisation of Agenda 2030, the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission has said.
Giving his speech at the International Human Rights Day (IHRD) commemorations held at a local hotel today, ZHRC Chairperson, Commissioner Dr Elasto Hilarious Mugwadi said ZHRC acknowledges the efforts by Government towards addressing and finding solutions for deep-rooted forms of discrimination that have affected the most vulnerable people in societies.
“It is quite commendable that Government is ensuring equality for all through the alignment of its National Development Strategy (NDS1) with the goals and aspirations of Vision 2030 together with provisions of regional and international treaties which Zimbabwe is party to,” he said.
Comm Dr Mugwadi said this will go a long way in promoting the advancement of equality and non-discrimination in all spheres of society as envisioned by Section 56 of the Constitution.
Speaking at the same event, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyiri said this year’s theme for IDHR underscores the importance of awarding equal opportunities to everyone in the country thereby complementing Government’s mandate.
She also thanked the commission for hosting the national event in the province this year stating that it was an honour.
