Equip councils to deal with fire – Shamu

Mashonaland West Bureau
Councils in Mashonaland West Province should be well-equipped to deal with fire incidences. This was said by the Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs Webster Shamu while officiating at the reopening of Eat ‘n’ Lick Chinhoyi branch recently, which was destroyed by fire in December last year.

Minister Shamu said councils should have adequate equipment for such and related incidents.
“Our councils should also be responsible and react to fires quickly and swiftly.
“Fire-brigade services should always be alert and on stand-by for such related accidents,” he said.

“They should make it their responsibilities to check if every retail outlet has necessary equipment to put down small fires before the arrival of the fire response team from the council.”
Minister Shamu also took the opportunity to remind Chinhoyi residents to keep the town clean.
“Visitors should be welcomed by the cleanliness of our towns, therefore, it remains the responsibility of every citizen to desist from throwing litter everywhere, but make use of bins,” he said.
Minister Shamu said maintaining order in the town was of paramount importance to Government, hence the need for transport operators to respect council by-laws.

“I would like to urge all the transporters to observe the law and we expect licensed transporters to carry our people while the police should also deal with pirate taxis that are causing havoc in the towns,” he said.
