Gweru City Council has received state-of-the-art earthmoving equipment worth over half-a-million dollars to service residential stands and rehabilitate roads.

Town clerk Ms Elizabeth Gwatipedza said to date the local authority has received equipment worth $514 207, which comprises a backhoe loader valued at $92 895, grader valued at $158 135, vibratory roller worth $94 300 and six Nissan trucks worth $168 877.

“Rubitech Machinery and Spares supplied us with a backhoe loader and vibratory roller and is still to deliver a bulldozer and an excavator before end of the year. Nissan Clover Leaf Motors, which was contracted to supply us with 10 Nissan trucks, has so far delivered six, while the remaining four trucks are expected before year end. Univerm Enterprises has delivered a grader, which it was contracted to supply,” she said.

Ms Gwatipedza said the equipment was part of earthmoving equipment worth over $1,2 million the local authority was expected to receive in the near future to improve service delivery and cut expenditure that is associated with hiring equipment for projects such as servicing of stands.

“While other companies have been honouring their contracts, council is facing problems with other companies that are failing to deliver,” she said.

Ms Gwatipedza said the local authority was now in the process of rehabilitating roads in Mkoba and Senga high-density suburbs to improve service delivery.
