Eria Chikwani, a taxi driver by profession, says the love of music saw him record his debut album “Kukwana Kwenguva”. The album, released last year, was well-recieved by fans and a video album will be out this monthend.
“I use the little that I get from my taxi business to shoot the videos so it will take me this month to finish the DVD,” he said.
Chikwani said he sacrificed his time and energy, including “starving” his family, just to get his music out.
The eight-track album features songs such as “Gare Gare”, “Jesu Makabatebasa” which is making waves on most radio stations, “Toramba Tichienda Mberi”,
“Ndinomunamata”,”Unherera”, “Tiregerere”, “Shoko Renyu” and “Jesu Anouya”.
Though he has a live band he is finding it difficult to perform shows because he is still unknown.
“We have a live band but people are not yet familiar with my music but we just hope that we will get calls for live performances,” he said.
He hopes to unleash another album once he finishes working on the videos.
“I will continue working for the Lord despite the fact that music is not paying,” he said.
The musician, who was born and bred in Gutu, said he was inspired by his father.
“He knew that I was very active in the church and he encouraged me to record my album because he was pleased with my music,” said Chikwani.
