The town of Esigodini is set to come alive this weekend as it transforms into a vibrant hub of sungura and Zora music, with veteran musician Leonard Zhakata scheduled for his maiden performance in the gold-rich district on Saturday night.

Backed by his tight-knit Zim All Stars band, the “Mugove” hitmaker will headline a star-studded line-up at a local nightspot in Habane, Esigodini.

A seasoned lyricist with a career spanning over three decades, Zhakata is expected to once again demonstrate why he remains one of the most respected voices in Zimbabwean music.

Known for his reserved nature off stage, Zhakata transforms into a commanding presence once he steps into the spotlight. He has often described the stage as a “CEO’s office” where serious business is conducted through melody and rhythm, a philosophy that fans in Matabeleland South are set to witness firsthand.

The setlist is expected to take fans on a nostalgic journey through some of his timeless classics.
Adding youthful energy to the night are the “Cheso Boys” – Esau and Tatenda Macheso, sons of sungura legend Alick Macheso. The duo, who lead the Orchestra Mberikwazvo Junior outfit, are set to showcase their growing talent and prove that musical excellence runs in the family. The brothers have steadily carved their own space in the industry, and their performance is expected to bridge the generational gap between veteran artistry and emerging sungura talent.

Providing continuous entertainment between sets will be popular DJ Mufundisi, ensuring the energy remains high throughout the night.
