organisers, the Board and Executive Ethics Indaba will initially be held in Harare on May 10 and later in Bulawayo on May 30.
In an interview with the Herald Business, co-organiser BEC managing director Mr Bradwell Mhonderwa said corporate ethics is an emerging global standard that local organisations needed to get full appreciation of.
“The ethics indaba is the first of its kind in Zimbabwe and its purpose is to prepare our corporate leaders for astute stewardship in the design and development of corporate ethics, governance processes which improve organisational performance.
“This is in recognition of the fact that corporate ethics is an emerging global standard and the seminar will see the unbundling of the concept’s intrinsic workings as a source of competitive advantage,” he said.
The range and quantity of business ethical issues reflects the interaction of profit-maximising behaviour with non-economic concerns. The keynote speaker at both events will be renowned speaker and trainer in business ethics, South African Professor Deon Rossouw.
Prof Rossouw is currently the chief executive officer of the Ethics Institute of South Africa, prior to which he was director of the Centre for Business and Professional Ethics at the University of Pretoria.
He is the author of several books and articles in the field of business ethics and corporate governance, and has engaged company leaders on the strategic imperatives of business ethics in countries in the region including Kenya, Angola, South Africa, Malawi and Botswana.
Mr Mhonderwa said they were targeting corporate leaders in the public and private sectors.
“As the name indicates, the event is targeted at board members and senior corporate executives as well as directors in public sector units and State enterprises,” he said.
