EUREKA Gold Mine is set to build 33 modern homes at Mbome Valley Farm for families affected by its expansion programme.

This development is a major milestone in the mine’s commitment to inclusive growth and social responsibility.

During a tour of the mine led by the Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Christopher Magomo, on Tuesday, the relocation project was highlighted as part of several community initiatives undertaken by the mining company.

The visit also included an inspection of classroom blocks constructed at Muroiwa Primary School and a new gold processing plant, which is expected to enhance the mine’s production capacity.

The mine’s human capital support services manager, Mr Tinago Tinago, said the homesteads are being built to ensure the comfort and dignity of the relocated families.

“We are also empowering 25 residents by providing them with four brick-moulding machines and a starter pack of raw materials,” he said.

“The bricks they produce will be purchased by the mine for our construction projects.”

Eureka Gold Mine has emerged as one of Zimbabwe’s top gold producers and plays a crucial role in the economy of Mashonaland Central.

According to the general manager Mr Nelson Banda, the mine has exceeded its annual gold production target of 1,7 tonnes for 2024 by several kilogrammes and has surpassed its first-quarter target for 2025 of 419 kilogrammes.

“The support we have received from the Second Republic and our local stakeholders has created a conducive environment for us to thrive. This cooperation has been instrumental in achieving these milestones,” said Mr Banda.

Minister Magomo commended the mine’s contributions to both the provincial and national economy, emphasising the importance of strong partnerships between the Government and the private sector.

“It is essential to engage directly with private companies that are making a significant impact on transforming the economy,” he said.

“Eureka Gold Mine stands out as a success story of the Second Republic, having created over 1 300 jobs and uplifted local communities.

“Mining contributes 19 percent to the GDP of Mashonaland Central Province, with Eureka Gold Mine serving as one of its key contributors.

“The mine’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives include efforts in education, health, and infrastructure development across the Guruve District. Future CSR plans involve refurbishing the maternity ward at Guruve Hospital, constructing a clinic, building an additional classroom block, teachers’ housing, and ablution facilities at Muroiwa.”

Guruve’s district information officer, Mr Godfrey Chireru, said the mine is engaging locals in its CSR strategy through stakeholder sector committees.

“These committees are crucial for suggesting and evaluating the community projects being implemented by the mine,” he said.

“With its strong production record and community-focused initiatives, Eureka Gold Mine is not only extracting gold but also creating lasting value for Zimbabweans in line with Vision 2030.”
