HWANGE High School female teacher Evelyn Rimai was among the 21 coaches who received a CAF C Licence certificate after a two-week course that was held in Victoria Falls. The Kwekwe born Rimai was part of the Zimbabwe team that took part in the Southern Africa schools ball games championships last month.

Among the coaches who took part were veteran Solomon Kaseke of ZPC Hwange, Gift Lunga (Snr) of Bantu Rovers, Kelvin Togaraseyi (Harare City FC), Moses Mwafulirwa (Black Rhinos), Zwanayi Kawadza (Rimbi Sunshine) and assistant coaches from How Mine, Twalumba, Karoi United and Trumers FC.

Another notable participant was Thulani Sibanda of Bulawayo Chiefs.
Caf instructors Salum Madade from Tanzania and Gibson Homela conducted the workshop.

The course touched on topics such as planning before training, planning before the game and administration.
Homela said the coaches, following their graduation, had joined an elite group of coaches with internationally recognised Caf qualifications.

“Way back, we used to think that coaching football was easy but the game is changing and therefore the need for you guys to keep on upgrading your CVs. Football is now dynamic and you should therefore not tire until you reach the apex,” he said.

Madade said the Caf C licence was different from the common certificates as it was recognised internationally.
“Caf is advocating for grassroots and youth development in soccer. With your certificates please find time to assist the grassroots. Caf wants to develop the game in Africa and it starts with the grassroots.

“Being in the Premier League or Division One does not mean you should stay there and as I said find time to work with the youths especially the Under-10s to  Under-16s,” Homela said.
He challenged participants to obtain a Caf B licence in two years time.
