A DARK cloud, brought by the Tynwald High School bus disaster, hung over the nation’s biggest outdoor party in the capital on Saturday.
The death of six students, in an accident in Nyanga, loomed over the Castle Lager National Braai Day at Old Hararians on Saturday.
Veteran dancehall star, Winky D, triggered sad emotions when he extended condolences to the families of the six Tynwald High School pupils.
The six died when their school bus careered off the road and overturned at the 75km peg along the Rusape-Nyanga Road on Friday night.
During his performance at the Castle Lager National Braai Day, the chanter dedicated his collaboration with the late superstar Dr Oliver Mtukudzi Panorwadza Mwoyo to the victims, survivors and their families.
“I want to extend my condolences to the families of the six students who died in the Tynwald High School bus disaster in Nyanga.
“My heart goes out to them during these trying times,” said Winky D on stage.
The selection of the track was befitting because the song has a comforting message to those who lost their loved ones.
Winky D went on to deliver a polished performance.
The braai day, dubbed the Octoberfeast by this newspaper, attracted a record bumper crowd.
Fellow chanter, Freeman, passed the litmus test again with a captivating standalone performance just a week after his album launch, which was graced by Jamaican star, Chris Martin.
Born Sylvester Chizanga, the musician gave fans a memorable outdoor party with his new songs and yesteryear hits.
For Nutty O, the sky is the limit.
Besides his choice of songs at the event, he is becoming a genuine star.
The pint-sized singer staggered through his set, but recovered towards the end following a change in the choice of songs.
Enzo Ishall was on point.
The lanky artist was first to take to the stage, along with DJ Fantan and, together, they produced an energetic performance.
Throughout his set, Enzo Ishall had a passionate connection with fans, who joined him on stage and he even got a shoe from one fan to compliment his Smart Rinotangira Kutsoka song.
His fans were very appreciative of his choice of songs. At the end, those who attended had fun, on a warm summer night.
It’s always nice to see Harare partying and nowhere is this better expressed than at the Castle Lager National Braai Day.
It was almost the perfect combination – good music, ice cold beer and loads of meat.
