They all united in their goal to elevate event planning standards. In the wake of notable events shaping Bulawayo’s entertainment scene last year, the “meet and greet” took an added significance as it set the stage for what promises to be a vibrant 2024.
Key industry players present included Brighton Mlilo, JB the MC, Victoria “MC Vicky” Sithole, Ngqabutho “Umuntu Omkhulu” Mlotshwa, Washington Dube, Future Dube (director of Khaya Arts Productions), CnC Productions, Inguni’s Catering, Uniko, Decor specialists, Daphne Moyo (Nova Events), Alan Mabuza (VA Visuals), MC Tevez, SaDee LensWork, and Ernet Sibanda.Nosizo Choga, the director of 4Squared Events, emphasised the importance of delivering excellent service to propel Bulawayo events to national standards.
“As event planners, it is imperative for us to comprehend our strengths and weaknesses, allowing us to channel our efforts towards our strengths for optimal excellence. Establishing clear goals is equally pivotal in cultivating efficiency in event planning. It serves as a motivating force propelling us to enhance our skills and strive towards our objectives in a highly competitive industry,” said Choga.

Umuntu Omkhulu highlighted the need for players in the city to enhance their skills and overall performance in events management. He emphasised the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and ethical practices to foster success and eliminate industry challenges.
“While we have earned recognition as the cultural hub and the best in Zimbabwe, the reality is that our financial prosperity is lagging. This stems from a lack of confidence and sufficient training in our abilities.
“Embracing teamwork and nurturing collaborative relationships, rather than succumbing to competition and resorting to unethical practices, is the key to aligning our services with the needs of our customers and achieving success.
“Our sector has suffered a decline in quality standards due to involvement in underhand tactics, back-biting, gate-keeping, and other unethical practices. We must eradicate these practices this year to sustain our continuous improvement as event planners,” suggested Umuntu Omkhulu.
Discussions at PeniQuila Gardens delved into the regulation of events, achieving a united front, and maintaining ethical standards within the industry. The gathering provided a valuable platform for professionals to connect, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities for growth and improvement. — @MbuleloMpofu.
