A Hurungwe man was sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison for raping his 16-year-old step-granddaughter three times. The sentence was handed down by the Karoi Regional Magistrates’ Court.
The man, a 70-year-old pensioner, was convicted on three counts of rape. According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), The incidents occurred in February 2025. For the first two counts, he received a 15-year prison sentence for each, and for the third count, he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. The court ruled that 10 years of the total imprisonment were suspended for five years on the condition of good behavior, making the effective sentence 20 years.
