FORMER Highlanders’ coach Mark Harrison is set to be unveiled as Kenyan Premier league champions Gor Mahia coach this week, dashing any hopes of a return to Bulawayo that some club fans were still holding on to.
Harrison oversaw Bosso’s pre-season training in January last year, but only took charge of one competitive match, the Castle Challenge Cup, which they lost 0-2 to FC Platinum in March of the same year, before the first Covid-19 lockdown resulted in the indefinite suspension of all sporting activities.
Bosso then agreed to free Harrison to join his family in the United Kingdom as part of cost cutting measures since no football was being played, saying he would return once the league started.
Harrison arrived in Nairobi on Friday and is set to be officially unveiled this week.
He takes over the Kenyan champions from Portuguese coach Manuel Vaz Pinto, who recently parted ways with the club on mutual consent.
Harrison has coached 13 clubs, among them Chippa United and Golden Arrows in the South African Premier Soccer League, Zimbabwe’s PSL teams Harare City and Highlanders FC, as well as Botswana’s Township Rollers.
Another former Bosso coach Kelvin Kaindu sealed a move to Zambian side Zanaco and penned a one-year deal on Sunday, marking his third return to the Zambian Bankers.
He had been unattached since being forced out of Nkana FC in April following a string of poor results.
Kaindu immediately assumed his duties and travelled with the team for a 10-day pre-season training camp in border town of Livingstone yesterday.
Zanaco were runners-up to Zesco United in the last league campaign. — @innocentskizoe
