EXPRIENCED former Hwange quartet of Felix Chindungwe, Ernest Gwitima, goalkeeper Prince Phiri and Kupakwashe Matake have joined ambitious Zifa Central Region Division One side Sheasham, B-Metro Sport has learnt.
The four players recently signed for the Gweru-based outfit together with the seasoned trio of Michael Mageja, Asani Nhongo and Musa Bude.
“This season we are basically aiming at being promoted to the Premier Soccer League. Last year, we finished the season on position two and as such we have thought of getting experienced players to make amends of what transpired last season when we lost the ticket to earn PSL promotion on the last day of our campaign. We are expecting all the teams in the league to give us a good fight,” said Sheasham head coach John Nyikadzino.
Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services side Whawha were the 2019 Central Region champions.
Whawha went into the final round of fixtures, trailing Sheasham by two points but after the latter lost their match — it paved way for the Luke Petros-coached side to seal the Zifa Central Region Division One title and promotion back into the topflight.
The prison wardens concluded their life in the unfashionable Division One league in emphatic fashion after outsmarting Shabanie Mine 0-2 at Maglas Stadium to overtake Sheasham, who were initially touted as favourites to win the championship.
Whawha, who were relegated from the Premiership after one season in 2015, ended the league race with 73 points, one ahead of Sheasham, who lost 1-0 to Dulibadzimu in Beitbridge.
