Former Public Works Deputy Minister and non-constituency Senator Guy Georgias’ wife has taken a tenant to court on allegations of malicious damage to property and theft involving $88 800.
Mrs Jayne Georgias accused Kuda Nyambo (40) of vandalising her property in Glen Lorne.
Nyambo appeared before Harare magistrate, Mr Rekina Dzikiti, yesterday who remanded him to today for continuation of trial.
Prosecutor, Ms Barbra Ndoro, said between December last year and August this year, Mrs Georgias and Nyambo entered into a memorandum of agreement to lease her property for US$3 000 per month.
Nyambo allegedly begged Mrs Georgias to allow him to occupy the property before the agreed dates and she agreed after he paid US$6 000.
The money was for rentals for December last year and January this year.
It is alleged that Nyambo occupied the house while it was in good condition and failed to pay rentals for the following months which was in breach of the agreement.
Mrs Georgias made efforts to get rentals from Nyambo to no avail.
It is the State’s case that Nyambo employed security guards at the house whom he instructed to bar Mrs Georgias from entering the premises.
Nyambo stayed at the house for seven months without paying rentals.
It is alleged that Mrs Georgias informed Nyambo that she was going to take legal action against him if he failed to make payments.
The court heard that Nyambo vacated the property the next day without informing Mrs Georgias.
He allegedly left keys to the house with a security guard who later called Mrs Georgias threatening to leave her property unattended if she failed to collect them.
Mrs Georgias brought two police officers to inspect her house and realised that it was in a deplorable state.
The court was told that several items had been damaged, including the council water meter and electricity cables.
