Relating the event, a pupil (name withheld), said Tshuma in his drunken stupor tore off his shirt, chased and caught up with the boy before giving him a volley of blows that floored him.
“He ripped off his shirt like a crazy man. I was so frightened I watched the whole event from a distance.
Tshuma chased the boy and when he caught him he started beating him using fists that knocked him down.
“Besingeke simlamule uSir ngoba besisesaba (We could not assist as we were afraid of the teacher),” she said.
Earlier on during the day, Tshuma is alleged to have stormed into and disrupted a School Development Committee meeting and hurled insults at the headmaster.
Narrating the bizarre incident, a teacher at the school who declined to be named said Tshuma stormed the school premises and interfered with a SDC meeting before causing havoc and insulting the headmaster.
“Tshuma popped into a SDC meeting and started hurling insults at the headmaster telling him that he was on strike.
“He also went around the school telling us he was on strike, and accused us of being cowards who were failing to initiate the strike, before boasting that he will start it himself,” he said.
Contacted for comment Njube High School headmaster, Mr Ndebele could not confirm nor deny the incident as he referred this reporter to the District Education Officer and the Provincial Education Director.
“I can not talk to the press, but you can get the information you want from the DEO and the PED and here are their numbers,” he said.
However, police are said to have later arrested Tshuma.
Efforts to get a comment from Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo were fruitless as he was said to be out of office and his mobile phone was unreachable.
