A FORMER Shamva Mining Company employee has been dragged to court after he allegedly stole a car he had been entrusted with after he had been relieved of his duties.
Fastino Ngoma, who is now employed by Ultimate Mine in Mazowe, appeared before magistrate Apollonia Marutya charged with fraud.
The court heard that in January 2021, Ngoma was employed by Shamva Mining Company.
He entered into an agreement whereby Shamva Mining Company bought a motor vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner GD6, and Ngoma would pay the money to the firm in instalments.
However, Ngoma left employment before fully paying for the vehicle.
Ngoma and Shamva Mining Company went for arbitration and he was ordered either to pay the outstanding amount of US$28 824,23 or to return the car to Shamva Mining Company within twenty one days.
In turn the company was ordered to reimburse an amount of US$16 800 to him.
Instead, on July 22 this year, Ngoma sold the car to the complainant Admire Chapfuwa for US$17 000.
He did not disclose the status and dispute related to the vehicle.
Ngoma was paid US$17 000.
Chapfuwa went on to advertise the vehicle for sale at his car sale in Milton Park, Harare.
Shamva Mining Company noticed the advertisement and approached the Court which gave an order to have the vehicle attached by the Deputy Sheriff and returned to the company.
On August 21, the vehicle was attached and returned to Shamva Mining Company.
Admire Chapfuwa suffered a prejudice of US$17 000 and nothing was recovered.
