THE Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) has collaborated with various organisations in Harare in a joint effort to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through raising awareness, fostering dialogue and empowering communities to take action.
The event was a commemoration of 16 days of activism against GBV held under the theme, ‘Towards Beijing +30: Unite To End Violence Against Women And Girls’.
Representatives of civil society, Government agencies and grassroots organisations were in attendance.
ZGC chairperson, Margaret Mukahanana-Sangarwe, reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing GBV.
“Ending GBV requires partnerships, commitment and diverse strategies that reach different segments of society.
“As Zimbabwe Gender Commission, we are devoted to promoting gender equality and we believe these events lay a foundation for future progress,” she said.
A guest said:
“The focus should be on empowering survivors and equipping communities with tools to combat GBV, not just generic entertainment,” she added.
As Zimbabwe continues to grapple with high rates of GBV, the event has sparked conversations about how such initiatives can be improved to better serve their purpose.
The guests urged the organisers of such events to review their approach and ensure that future events remain focused on tangible outcomes.
