A former Shamva Mine employee has appeared in court facing allegations of fraud involving US$17 000.

Fastino Ngoma was remanded in custody until Thursday for bail application.

The court heard that in January 2021, Ngoma, who was employed by Shamva Mining Company, entered into an agreement that would see the company buying him a Toyota Fortuner GD6. He would pay for the vehicle in installments.

However, Ngoma left the company before paying for the vehicle in full, prompting Shamva Mining Company to seek arbitration.

Ngoma was ordered to either pay the outstanding US$28 824.23 or return the motor vehicle to the company within 21 days.

On July 22, 2024, Ngoma sold the vehicle to Admire Chapfuwa for US$17 000 without disclosing the issues surrounding the vehicle.

Chapfuwa subsequently advertised that the vehicle was for sale at his car dealership in Milton Park, Harare.

Upon seeing the advertisement, Shamva Mining Company approached the court, which then issued an order for the vehicle to be attached by the Deputy Sheriff.

On August 21 of this year, the vehicle was attached and returned to Shamva Mining Company.

As a result, Admire Chapfuwa suffered a loss of US$17 000, and nothing was recovered.
