FORMER Sunday News proof reader Sifiso Mdlongwa has died. Mdlongwa, who was 45, died on Monday evening at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) following a short illness.

He worked as a proof reader for various Zimpapers publications including The Chronicle, Umthunywa and B-Metro. Mdlongwa’s sister, Mrs Thenjiwe Dube, also a former Sunday News employee, said Mdlongwa died unexpectedly.

“On Sunday last week he was admitted to Inyathi District Hospital and then referred to UBH but before that we took him for a scan in town on Monday to have his abdomen checked as he was vomiting. We then took him to the hospital where he died while awaiting examination in the evening,” she said.

Mrs Dube said she had been communicating with her brother all along discussing their pension issues as they had both recently retired from Zimpapers and he was well. She said the family was devastated.

The Editor of the Sunday News, Limukani Ncube, said Mdlongwa was a sociable and lovable character who despite having left the company would visit occasionally.

“He was a sociable character who worked well with almost everyone. Even after he had left the company he would come in and have a chat with friends. He was also an active member of the Chronicle social soccer team. His death really shocked everyone in the company. We are with his family in this difficult period.”

Chief Sub-Editor Zhoronimo Magagula said Mdlongwa had big plans when he retired but unfortunately he passed on before he fulfilled them. He was buried at his rural home in Siganda in Matabeleland North on Thursday.

He leaves behind his wife, Rosetta Adams and three children.
