THE trial of former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation chief executive officer Happison Muchechetere will not start anytime soon after his lawyer yesterday told the magistrates court that he was going to make another application at the Constitutional Court.
The trial was supposed to start yesterday.
Muchechetere is facing charges of contravening the procurement law.
The trial date had been set after Muchechetere withdrew his constitutional application.
Muchechetere was remanded to July 6 by magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa after his lawyer, Advocate Thabani Mpofu, notified the court that he intended to file another application at the Constitutional Court challenging the criminal proceedings.
Advocate Mpofu will submit his application on the next remand date.
Prosecutor Mr Michael Reza will respond on July 13.
Mr Mupeiwa is expected to pass a ruling on July 22.
In February this year, the Constitutional Court threw out Muchechetere’s appeal after ruling that the application was not filed in terms of the law.
When they previously appeared in court, Advocate Mpofu indicated that they were still pursuing their Constitutional Court application challenging the criminal proceedings which they later withdrew paving way for the fresh application they intend to file.
