Ex Zifa president cleared by the courts

AFTER a court case that stretched for long, ex Zifa president Felton Kamambo has been cleared of what was widely termed the Ecocash scandal.

Since 2019, Kamambo was arraigned before the courts on 32 counts of bribery after the state alleged that sometime in December 2018, during the Zifa elections, he made various ecocash payments to 25 voters as bribes so that they would vote for him as Zifa president.

Kamambo was accused of doing that by Harare business mogul Philip Chiyangwa, who also took part in the elections. However, Harare magistrate Bianca Makwande found Kamambo not guilty.  Magistrate Makwande said the state failed to prove the essential elements of the offence, hence granting Kamambo his freedom.

The case reportedly went through 16 postponements and remands.  As if that was not enough, some key witnesses passed on before the verdict was passed. These are Dennis Tshuma and Willard Manyengavana.
