Everton Mlalazi’s work ethic and consistency across the African gospel scene are visible and worthy to be recognised – his three nominations at the Clima Africa Awards are a testimony to that.
On their eighth edition, Clima Africa awards are set to be held in Abuja, Nigeria on 5 October. The awards were designed to be the apex Christian Awards in Nigeria and Africa. They are aimed at celebrating Christian professionals and ministers of God with integrity.
This year’s theme “The Re-birth” – is an expression of a new season to showcase the real vision of Clima Africa which is, celebration, recognition, appreciation, and igniting unity of all Christian talents and impact makers in Africa.
Mlalazi was nominated in three categories, Southern Africa Gospel Artiste of the Year, Africa Worship Artiste of the Year and Africa Best Male Artiste of the Year.
For Africa Best Male Artiste of the Year he was nominated alongside Ebuka Songs, Dunsin Oyekan, Frank Edwards (all from Nigeria), as well as Israel Mbonyi (Rwanda) and fellow countryman Canaan Nyathi.
On the African Worship Artiste of the Year category, he was nominated with Minister GUC, Onos , Preye Odede, Chris Morgan (all from Nigeria), and MOG Music (Ghana).
For Southern Africa Gospel Artiste of the Year, he was nominated with South Africans Winnie Mashaba and Jumbo, Deborah Ngama (Zambia) and Canaan Nyathi. The soft spoken Mlalazi said he was overwhelmed by the nominations at the prestigious awards.
Last year he was nominated two times and he was crowned the King of African Gospel as he won the Best Male Gospel Artiste of the Year accolade. This year, he said he will be happy if he scoops at least two awards.
“I am so excited to be nominated at the Clima Africa awards once again. Last year I managed to scoop one award out of two. This year I am nominated for three separate awards and that excites me because it means that different platforms all over Africa appreciate the gospel.
“I am humbled by the support we get from our people here in Zimbabwe and the whole of Africa. I kept working and released more music and toured Zimbabwe, Africa, and the rest of the world to get the music out there. I believe the efforts made me to be nominated. My expectation on the night of the awards is that those who have done well can be crowned as winners. But if we bring two awards from the three nominations it will be awesome,” said Mlalazi.
Meanwhile, Mlalazi’s mission to spread the Gospel is not stopping anytime soon as The Vine frontman has collaborated with Janet Manyowa on a “masterpiece” which will be released by the end of the month. The collaboration was influenced by the choice of fans.
“At the beginning of last month, we asked the fans who they would want me to collaborate with in Zimbabwe. Remember I have collaborated with a male artiste, Michael Mahendere. So this time we needed to work with a female artiste. We received a lot of names, amazing and great artistes but Janet Manyowa stood out as many people requested I work with her. We then bowed down to the people’s request, then we approached Manyowa, did the writing process, and then recorded the song. The song will be released by the end of this month and it will be complemented by a video which we have already short. It was amazing working with her, she is humble and has so much depth in understanding the word of God. Her writing skills are exceptional and unmatched, no wonder why people love her so much. The song is a master piece and I believe many Gospel lovers will connect with it,” said Mlalazi.
