Exhibition interrogates social problems

religion, ubuntu, gender and imagination.

Responding to the theme, artists looked at various ideas coming from the title and raised the question,

“How does an artist address these thorny issues?”

The gallery’s curator, Mr Raphel Chikukwa, said: “Idea of Self remains on the global discourse. Many of the artists used materials and common objects to interrogate the concepts of the show that are not to be viewed as radical gestures.

“Danna Whabira’s installation in the East Gallery entitled ‘Kiss Kiss’ is questioning relationships in a regular everyday phenomenon. A huge bed with more than 70 mannequins, questions the morality of small houses and today, gender violence has become the talk of the day,” he said.

Interrogating one-self is generally part of a critical artistic ritual that often results in the unveiling of unknown views.
